Class Environmental Assessment and Consultation Process
This Detail Design study was completed in accordance with the provincial Environmental Assessment Act, RSO (1980), and requirements of the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities, (2000) for a Group “B” project. Provincial Class EA approval for the replacement of the Argyle Street Bridge was obtained in 2009 at the completion of the Preliminary Design, allowing the Detail Design to proceed.
External agency and public consultation took place throughout the study. The study included Community Information Sessions (CISs). The purpose of the CISs was to present the recommended bridge design, including heritage enhancement features, traffic management and construction staging, and any proposed mitigation measures. Notices providing the time and location of the CISs were published in the Sachem, Turtle Island News and Two Row Times, sent to individuals, agencies, and organizations on the study mailing list, and posted on the project website.
This Detail Design study was built on the information collected during Preliminary Design and documented in the 2009 Transportation Environmental Study Report (available in the Reports section of this website). At the end of the study, a Design and Construction Report (DCR) was prepared to summarize the results of study investigations; provide an overview of public consultation conducted; and present any mitigation measures selected during Detail Design. The DCR will be made available for a 30-day public review period which ended on April 10, 2020.
